Rockingham Fishing and Hunting Expo ~ 2015

I am personally looking forward to attending the some of the fishy seminars and presenting “Skishing: eXtreme Surfcasting” on Sunday, January 11th at 11:00 AM.

Skishing: eXtreme Surfcasting

In between seminars, I will troll the aisles and anchor up at some of the fishy booths. This is a wicked fishy show! When you stop by, be sure to visit the Fish360.NET both! 😉

Surfcasting Block Island Seminar

I had the opportunity to attend Dennis Zambrotta’s seminar at the Plum Island Surfcasters October club meeting.  Bottom line, Dennis delivered a “Wicked Awesome!” seminar.

Fish360 Surfcasting Block Island Seminar
Dennis shared his knowledge on tide, wind, and presentations: needlefish, red fins, darters, and eels.  His tips on rigging loaded and unloaded red fins with different size hooks was worth the price of admission.

I have read Surfcasting Around The Block, but to hear Dennis speak of where, when and how to surfcast Block island was priceless.  I now have a deeper understanding and appreciation for that fishery.  If you have an opportunity to attend one of Dennis’ up coming seminars: go! 🙂

CTS Crew on Cape Cod Canal

The CTS Crew are on the Cape Cod Canal targeting striped bass this week. They have no shortage of rods. Fish beware! 😉

Fish360 CTS RH Custom Rods Crew

I have a custom S7 for skishing and an S8 for fishing the Cape Cod Canal. I have field tested these rods with a full range of lures. Bottom line, these rods excel in their respective applications. They cast wicked far and can tire out 50 lb plus fish without breaking a fiber. ;-).

Drop the CTS Crew a line on their Facebook page to demo an S7 and an S8 while there are fishing “The Ditch”. Before you buy your next rod, cast a CTS. Trust me! ;-).

Plum Island Surfcasters Juniors’ Carp Fishing Trip ~ 2014

Each year, the Plum Island Surfcasters run a carp fishing trip for their Junior members. This annual event gives Junior members an opportunity to improve their casting and fish fighting skills.  A Junior member properly loading her rod for the first time is a sight to see!

Fish360 PISC Carp Trip 2014

This event is also a great way to introduce new lines, rigs and techniques.  During this year’s trip, some Junior members transitioned from monofilament line to braided line and fished boilies from the United Kingdom on hair rigs.

The Plum Island Surfcasters Junior members who attended this trip are now confident and ready for the upcoming surf fishing trips on Plum Island and Hampton. OMG.  Fish beware! 😉

Plum Island Surfcasters Invitational Tournament ~ 2014

I had the honor and privilege of running the Plum Island SurfcastersInvitational Tournament this year. Three clubs were represented: Plum Island Surfcasters, Massachusetts Beach Buggy Association, and Massachusetts Striped Bass.

Plum Island Surfcasters Invitational Tournament ~ 2014

Schoolie striped bass were actively swimming around Plum island. Teams located the fish, but getting them to overcome their lock jaw and strike was a challenge. The presentations that worked were small 4 – 5 inch baits (e.g. soft plastic paddle tail swimmers and white Go Stryper pin tails). Once the fish moved further out, small metals put some fish on the leader board.

After the tournament, a hot breakfast was served and a table raffle was has held. Some of the fishy gear items on the raffle table were: pencil poppers and an umbrella rig from Granite State Rod and Reel Repair and wooden plugs from Striper Maine-iac.

This year, the boundaries were expand because shore access continuous to be a challenge. This helped the 50+ participants put fish on the leader board during half of the out going tide in the rivers (Merrimack and Parker) and the incoming tide on the ocean front. There are several improvements already being planning for next year’s Invitational tournament! 😉

Fishing the Plum Island Surfcasters Invitational is a fun way to explore new spots and techniques while casting along side some of the top anglers in the North East. I hope to see you at next year’s Invitational!

“Fishing the Night” by Ron McKee

Ron McKee, owner of Striper Maine-iac Custom Tackle, presented “Fishing the Night” at the Plum Island Surfcasters’ May club meeting. In this seriously fishy seminar, Ron shared field-proven tips and tricks to hunt large predatory striped bass safely and productively under the cover of darkness from the beach and rocks.

Ron McKey

From start to finish, Ron flooded the audience with knowledge and his personal experiences. Here are but three of his tips:

  1. Insert a glow stick into your eel jar. This will keep the local critters like skunks away from your eels while you surfcast.
  2. Put a frozen water bottle with your eels to keep them cool and calm. At the end of the night, rinse off the bottle in the surf and drink the cold fresh water inside.
  3. Install a large Fuji rubber butt cap on the end of your rod. This will keep your rod from slipping when you use it as a walking stick to negotiate your entry and exit from the surf.

Our striped friends are back in force in the Northeast. You will not see Ron McKey at another seminar until after the fall migration.  Be sure to stop in and watch his seminar at next year’s Rockinham Fishing and Hunting Expo or theNew England Saltwater Fishing Show. Trust me! ;-).

New England Saltwater Fishing Show ~ 2014

I still remember the first time that I went to the New England Saltwater Fishing Show. As I trolled through the isles, “WOW”, “OMG”, and “Wicked Awesome!” were my immediate responses to the booths I saw. The breadth and depth of the seminars were well worth the price of admission. The same holds true today!

New England Saltwater Fishing Show

This year there are no shortage of exhibitors: 300+ in total. I personally will be visiting:

This will be our third year exhibiting at the New England Saltwater Fishing Show. Each year, we debut a new feature of our secure online fishing journal. Stop by booth 323 and let’s talk fish. ;-).

This year’s show is packed with seminars. There are 26 seminar speakers. I personally will be attending:

I will be presenting “Wicked Chucking” on Friday (28-MAR-2014 3:30 PM Main Stage) and Saturday (29-MAR-2014 11:30 AM Main Stage). It’s going to be wicked!!!

Fish360 Wicked Chunking

The New England Saltwater Fishing Show is exceptionally fishy and well run show. If you fish saltwater in New England, you should drop in, troll through the isles, attend seminars, and talk fish with other like-minded people. You will love it. See you at the show!!!

Rockingham Fishing and Hunting Expo 2014

I presented at Rockingham Fishing and Hunting Expo for the first time this year.  Wow!  What a fishy show.

Fish360 Rockingham Hunting and Fishing Expo

As a visitor, I found no shortage booths featuring fishing products and services.  As a presenter, I found the organization and technology to be first class.

If you attended my “Wicked Chunking” seminar and you have follow up questions, drop me a line.  If you missed my seminar, no worries.  I will be presenting an expand version at the Plum Island Surfcasters fishing show next month.

I am looking forward to the Rockingham Fishing and Hunting Expo 2015!  I have already started my new seminar.  OMG!  It’s going to be extreme! 😉

Fall Stripers Steve Pappos

I had the opportunity to see Steve Poppas present “Fall Stripers” at the October 2013 Plum Island Surfcasters club meeting.  The first time that I saw Steve present was many new moons ago. I was chunking the surf.  He inspired me to start plugging the surf.

Fish360 Steve Pappos Fall Stripers

Steve’s presentation overflowed with fishy knowledge, stories, and jokes. He spoke to the gear that he uses and why.  He also shared proven techniques that he has refined in his 40+ years of Surfcasting.  For those who listened closely, Steve shared six of his prized hot spots!

Steve Pappos is a Surfcaster.  He has landed several trophy striped bass from the surf via plugs that cast a shadow on boat fish landed via bait.  So when he says: “You can use any plug, as long as it’s yellow.”….I believe him! 😉

Striperfest 2013

Striper Cup 2013 had 3,900 registered anglers. At Striperfest, it felt like all 4,000 of us were there. 😉

Fish360 Striperfest 2013

Patrick Sebile was working the SpiderWire knot testing machine. The knot challenges were impressive. But, if your knot lost, you had to drink water from the lure tank. Although the angler who lost was spared, I did not participate. 😉

Fish360 Striperfest 2013

A new exhibitor was Old Town, a long standing New England company.   Their new Predator kayak was on display.  Impressive!

Fish360 Striperfest 2013

At the begging of the awards ceremony, 0ld Town awarded a Predator kayak to a Striper Cup 2013 angler who survived the Boston Marathon bombing.  He walked effortlessly onto the stage, complements of a modern prosthetic.  He was surprised, grateful, and full is emotion. Boston Strong!

At the end of the awards ceremony, the golden ticket was drawned.  The angler who won the Pursuit boat was from New York.  He was welcomed to the stage in Red Sox fan fashion by the crowd: “Yankees suck!”  He as walking on air and took his welcome quite well. 😉

Fish360 Striperfest 2013

Since 2006, the Striper Cup has done one thing consistently: improve. Striper Cup 2014 is no exception: Kayak Division.  Yes!  Striper Cup 2014 will have a Kayak Division!  I am already planning next year’s trips in my fishing journal.  Fish beware! 😉
